Many of Charlie's old 'friends' are in this one, including the Collector, Mr. Jude, a dandy professorial type by street standards, was found hanged, his demise chalked up to suicide by local police.
In addition to superb writing, Connolly brings a consistent intelligence to his work, never shortchanging or, even more important, underestimating his readers. And yes, I will definitely seek out book one. They only open at the top, and a child could barely ft through the gap. The community of Prosperous, Maine has always thrived when others have suffered. I am guessing that the pieces of this book that I did not like were part of a story arc that spans several books in the series. There is all kinds of crazy shit going down in this one and all of my favorite characters are back in the mix. A Charlie Parker novel, perhaps Connnolly's best.
