Morgan's debut novel, Tainted, is a solid thriller with many twists and turns that will have some readers guessing until the very end. To view it, This was a pretty good book. The setting may be semi-rural but there's a definite sense of claustrophobia. Holly was a bit spineless and unbelievably blind to the many 'uh oh, this is bad' moments that Morgan plants so deftly as she builds up to Jack's big bad secret. In a matter of a few weeks, this dashing man manages to catch Holly's eye and get her to marry him. But is Jack the considerate, concerned gentleman he appears to be—or is there a very different creature lurking below the surface? Everything appears perfectly normal on the outside, but soon hidden actions have an entirely different meaning. Once the first layers of deception are peeled away, you find even more and can't believe just how truly manipulative Jack can be when his true evil comes into play.
He sweeps Holly off her feet, and is soon touching the lives of everyone she deeply cares about. Here are a couple of excerpts that stood out to me: pg. The real-life murder case of British toddler Jamie Bulger helped inspire Morgan's excellent debut, an impeccably paced suspense novel set on Cape Cod.
To Holly, Jack is perfect, and she puts the questions raised by Henry, her best friend Anna, and Katy's father Billy down to jealousy. Within six weeks they are married and Jack opens up a whole new world for Holly and her young daughter Katy, offering them a way out of the small-town Massachusetts existence in which they have become trapped. A whirlwind romance ensues, and even Barrett's 5-year-old daughter is charmed. The language was lacking and was either overly descriptive or trying to shock with ridiculous amounts of obscenities. Basically, it was good enough where I always wanted to keep reading but not so good that I had a hard time putting it down. I got this book from Librarything.
He kidnapped your daughter and tried to kill her. When Holly Barrett meets Jack Dane, she falls rapidly in love. I had a bit of a problem getting over the fact that author chose to have a character in the book named Billy Madison. Not everything should be rainbows and butterflies in a book ending, in my humble opinion. The ending, Jack killed Holly's grandfather, tried to kill her daughter.
That I know of, they only say car park in England, and perhaps somewhere else overseas, but not in America. But as the book unravels, things don't seem quite right with the man. Therefore, even though the spoiler at the back cover left me without a doubt that something would happen that would deem him as a monster, the book still kept me guessing. In addition to excellent characterization, Brooke Morgan does a marvelous job of bringing the scenery of Cape Cod to life. Thanks again to for asking me to be a part of this wonderful book tour. The ending is left open, which is something that actually disappointed me about the book, as after reading the final paragraph I wanted to find out what the outcome was, instead of being left guessing what path Holly's life would eventually take. I knew from the cover sometimes it can in fact be used to judge a book and the blurb that this would not be good quality literature.
